I don't often use the word "scrumptious", but it is the first one that comes to mind when studying the photo of your red sweater in progress. It is going to be a stunning item of knitwear and well-worth the time spent or not spent on it, depending.

The sweater is looking good so far! Love that color.

Have you ever considered moving to an electronic system of managing/tracking your expenses? Mine is super easy. I use Microsoft Money and all of my accounts are online (plus I pay all bills online) so then every day updates are imported into Money and all I have to do is review and classify them. I can do it a little each day to keep up with it as it's happening, and I like how it gives me monthly reports on how my spending was categorized and how it compared to last month, or year to date.

Both projects look great! Take your time, no need to make that 1/31 deadline. I'm sure you will have some "slack" time this year to catch up. If not, it is more important that you are happy with a sweater you will wear for years than happy that you knit 12 sweaters you don't like so well in a year.
I really like the swatch for sweater #2. Both the color and the pattern are quite nice. You can't go wrong with Aurora 8, or Barbara Abbey, for that matter. (I got my copy of that book for $7 at a used bookstore in Jim Thorpe, PA.)

Don't you just hate it when life gets in the way? If I didn't work, I'd have so much more time to do the things I want. Of course, I wouldn't be able to afford them! I love the stitch definition on the Aurora.

Wishing you success in the January sweater! It looks great.
