I’ve been knitting away at Ed’s sleeve, at a sufficient pace to quash all questions about when it will be done. (Although I did not stop the jokes about another one-armed sweater. This time, Ed pondered which arm would get the sleeve.)
But my progress is not without obstacles. When I first measured the distance from the top of the shoulder to the wrist, I got 19 inches. The sweater schematic I’m using for guidance has a 20-inch sleeve, and so I thought I was doing ok. I’ve knitted 17 inches, and although this picture doesn’t have the sleeve or shoulder at their precise locations, it is pretty clear that 19 inches is not enough. So I do need to revise my chart. The tricky bit is where to start the shaping. I need 10 rows for it.
I’m leaving for Stitches East in about a week, and I’ll be gone for four days. (I also decided, at long last, to visit the National Aquarium on this trip, and so I’m leaving early to do that.) Everyone I’m working for is acting as if the world is coming to an end because I’ll be out for most of next week. And I expect today to be quite awful. Actually, I expect the next six workdays to be awful. If I feel totally incapable of managing the final measurement, I may just start on sleeve #2 and save the calculations for another time.
But I am getting excited at both the prospect of having Ed’s sweater done and at the prospect of finally getting to Stitches East.
I'm starting to get excited about Stitches too! That Ed - he's a real comedian!!

Maybe it just needs a longer shoulder? :) Sorry, I guess I'm focused on drop shoulders, since I've seen a LOT of those lately. ha==ah hmm. Seriously, there's not that much more to go, considering what you've done. It looks great. So, you have to knit another? In a week? **Hats off**
